Municipality inspires young minds at Arbour Day event

Rand West City Local Municipality partnered with the youth to teach them about the importance of nature and the meaning of Arbour Month.

Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) hosted an Arbour Day School Event Competition at the Randfontein Bird Sanctuary to celebrate Arbour Month under the theme “My tree, my oxygen – plant yours today’.

RWCLM spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa explained that the Environmental Management Unit hosted the event, aiming to bring various schools from Rand West City together to raise awareness about the environment and sustainability.

Learners took part in numerous eco-friendly activities and competitions, which created an understanding of environmental issues and connected them with nature.

“The event focused on hands-on learning, encouraging students to take an active role in protecting the planet. It was not only about the competition, but also about fostering responsibility for the environment in the next generation.

The Bird Sanctuary provided the perfect backdrop for these activities, inspiring creativity and environmental stewardship,” said Montshiwa.
