Top cop scuffle video: Security officers slapped with string of charges
This comes after a video emerged, depicting one of the suspects being involved in a scuffle with the top cop and his colleague in Westonaria.
The two security officers who were arrested in connection with a scuffle that broke out between one of them and the West Rand District Police Commissioner Major-General Fred Kekana, have been slapped with a string of charges.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority’s regional spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwane, a video emerged depicting one of the suspects being involved in a scuffle with the top cop and his colleague in Westonaria in the first week of September.

The second suspect was on the other end, taking a video of the incident. In a statement issued, Mjonondwane said that the two are facing charges of attempted robbery, assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, resisting arrest and crimen injuria.
“The community of Simunye in the West Rand erected a boom gate and appointed security guards to do access control. A top-ranking police official was visiting a friend when the security officer stopped him and wanted to search him. He refused and the security officer insulted him.
The major-general warned this security officer but he did not listen. When the official phoned his colleague, a constable within the police to come and assist, the security guard allegedly assaulted him.
“There was a long period of scuffling on the video, wherein the security guard allegedly attempted to rob the constable of his service pistol, broke his wristwatch, and allegedly assaulted both Major-General Kekana and the constable. In the video, the second accused can be heard swearing and insulting both officers in full view of members of the public while they are dressed in police uniforms. More backup was called and the accused were arrested,” said Mjonondwane.
The case was remanded to September 29 and both suspects were released on a bail of R1 000 each.
