The suspects fled the scene, leaving a toy gun behind – authorities now urge anyone with info to come forward.
Police are investigating a case of attempted hijacking and malicious damage to property after an attack on a police constable this morning, July 14.
National and provincial spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi stated that a constable was driving a state vehicle around Westonaria when a blue BMW stopped next to him and smashed the driver’s window with an unknown object.
“The constable fired at the perpetrators, and they sped off. They left a firearm behind, which was later found to be a toy gun.
“No injuries were reported, and the police are on the lookout for the perpetrators. Anyone with information that can assist with the investigation is requested to contact the Crime Stop Hotline on 08600 10111,” said Nevhuhulwi.
* National police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, has since confirmed the constable was indeed the driver of acting Gauteng police commissioner, Major General Fred Kekana. The state vehicle was also unmarked.
