Open mini-substation a disaster waiting to happen

A resident has noted with concern that the door to a mini-substation where many people pass by was stolen.

The theft of municipal property is causing a headache for Simunye Extension 5 residents and has left them with an open mini-substation – a disaster waiting to happen.

This is according to local resident Lawrence Mahlalela who said the criminal element in the community had been stealing the door of mini-substations constantly, leaving the wiring exposed.

We have a serious challenge with theft in our society especially where municipal property is concerned.

“Now we have an open electricity mini-substation again. We report it to the municipality and they do attend to the problem, but when it is fixed today, it will be stolen again tomorrow,” said Mahlalela who added that they as a community needed to work together to look after their property.
