Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) spokesperson Phillip Monsthiwa confirmed in a statement that Eskom was calling for power reduction in the area which is set to be implemented from September 26 till September 28, and should not be confused with the current load-shedding.

The power utility needs to carry out maintenance work at one of its transformers at the Westergloor substation, and needs three days to complete their work.

As a result, RWCLM will be forced to implement load reduction in the following areas:

• Aureus Extension 3 (business areas)
• Toekomsrus
• Randfontein South
• Pelzvale
• Umphakathi Mall

The utility added that it will try its best not to switch off business customers over this period and requested people being fed from the Westergloor substation to reduce their electricity consumption over the said period to reduce the possibility of load reduction.
