Damaged traffic light at busy intersection now fixed

The flow of traffic has been restored to normality after a damaged traffic light situated in Greenhills has been replaced.

The traffic light that was damaged at an intersection on the corner of Homestead Avenue and Kenneth Road has been fixed.

The traffic light was smashed into on September 24.

Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa said due to the safety of road users, they try to repair damaged traffic lights within a few days.

“Traffic lights are one of the most important components on the roads. Apart from managing the smooth flow of traffic, the lights also ensure the safety of the vehicles as well as the pedestrians.

“We try our best to replace any damage traffic pole within one or two days, it all depends on availability of material, but in this case, we had a pole available, and the damaged pole was replaced within two days,” said Montshiwa.

He urged motorists to treat a traffic light as a stop street or four-way stop in the event that they are not working and encouraged both pedestrians and motorists to report faulty traffic lights or vandalism to their call centre on 087 238 2493.
