The potholes were huge and causing residents to drive on oncoming traffic, to avoid damaging their vehicles.

This was evident when the Herald spotted contract workers filling the potholes with asphalt shortly after 16:00 on Monday, February 27.

This led to motorists being stuck in slow-moving traffic, due to the stop-and-go method being implemented.
Herald Journalist Nonkululeko Maqwhara stopped to speak to motorist Sello Khoza regarding the road works, just to get a sense of how he feels about the work undertaken.

He said he is excited, to say the least, and added that driving will be a pleasurable experience going forward.
I travel this road every day and it has given me nothing but a headache over the past few months.
The potholes were everywhere and we had to drive on oncoming traffic now and again to avoid hitting these potholes. I am confident that the situation will be different, as repairs are being done and our confidence is somewhat restored,” said Khoza.

Meanwhile, another resident and business owner Des Stoltz said he is not getting too excited just yet.

“This is not the first time that potholes are being repaired and they never seem to last.
While we are glad that there’s somewhat of an attempt to repair the roads, I just wonder whether or not the material used is the right one and whether or not these repairs will last,” said Stolz.
