Snakes pose a threat to Dan Tloome residents due to overgrown grass

Residents fear for their safety due to overgrown grass and overflowing bins.

Residents of Dan Tloome are growing increasingly anxious about their safety as overgrown grass near their apartment building attracts snakes and insects.

Venetia Adams, a concerned resident, shared her distress after a snake slithered dangerously close to her apartment.

“It was terrifying,” she said.

“Other residents have also had to kill two snakes that emerged from the tall grass on the opposite side. We just want someone to help us before something terrible happens.”

Adams emphasised that the danger extends beyond just the adults.

The overflowing trash bins.

“Children often play in the area, especially after it rains and the ground floods. I’m deeply worried that one of them could get bitten.

“To reclaim the space, another resident took matters into her own hands, clearing a patch of the overgrown grass to start a small food garden. However, without broader intervention, the problem persists.

Beyond the grass, residents also struggle with waste management.

According to Adams, the three rubbish bins provided are insufficient, often overflowing by midweek – days before the scheduled Saturday collection.

“We used to have four bins, but one was stolen. Now, the remaining three simply aren’t enough for the whole block,” she explained.

Residents say they feel neglected and hope for swift action from authorities to address both concerns before the situation worsens.
