MK Party questions municipal leadership in Randfontein
Some key concerns about municipal service delivery was raised by the MK Party in a statement where they begged the question if the leadership has a plan.

The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has raised concern regarding Rand West City Local Municipality’s (RWCLM) service delivery execution and the lack of responsibility.
The convenor of the party, Kabelo Nakedi, explained in a statement that they observed the municipality over the past weeks wherein several incidents occurred. This includes the electrocution and death of an eight-year-old boy in Mohlakeng as well as the death of a child in Mohlakeng Ext 11 who fell into a manhole.
In regards to the electrocuted boy, Nakedi explained the municipality promised that all unattended and open electricity boxes would be fixed. According to Nakedi, not a single one was attended to.
Furthermore, Nakedi stressed the incomplete projects in Bekkersdal and the filth that the people of Bekkersdal are subjected to as well as the illegal dumping in townships across the Rand West City.
More concerns Nakedi announced include consistent water outages in the entire Rand West City, the more than a month water outage in Dan Tloome, the consistent power outage in the whole of Rand West City and sewer spillages in Rand West City.
Another key concern raised by Nakedi is the closure of the Prototype Early Childhood Development Centre (ECD) in Mohlakeng.
“The involvement of the ANC ward councillor from Ward 15 in Mohlakeng has complicated issues regarding the functionality of the Prototype ECD. We are wondering how a ward councillor can be involved in the functionality of the ECD. We view ECDs as the primary foundation for adequate education and that requires fully functional administrators who are passionate about the education of a black child,” Nakedi proclaimed.
He claimed that Executive Mayor William Matsheke makes promises that he never commits to.
“The mayor sometime in July 2024 on an ANCYL programme held in Bekkersdal made commitments that he will create 1 700 job opportunities for the youth and persons above 35 years of age. To date, we are still to see the creation of that wild dream.
“On two occasions, the mayor made commitments that they would address the infrastructure problems of Bekkersdal. The mayor has never consciously taken the initiative to go back and apologise to the residents of Bekkersdal. He has been campaigning for the ANC in Ward 35, continues to lie to the community and makes more promises while he can’t attend to the ones he committed to,” Nakedi explained.
“All the above-elucidated information reflects one part: The weaknesses in the political leadership of the municipality. The question we should all ask is, does this leadership have a plan to execute?”
The Randfontein Herald approached RWCLM for comment concerning Nakedi’s claims, however, no comment was given at the time of print. Their feedback will be published once received.
