Glenharvie water outage continues as Bekkersdal residents also run dry

Residents of Glenharvie continue to struggle without water in their taps, while Bekkersdal residents are now also feeling the pressure of no water.

Residents of Glenharvie have expressed their distress over the ongoing water outage in the area, which has now extended to Bekkersdal, where residents are also experiencing dry taps.

On October 23, the Randfontein Herald reported that the outage in Glenharvie had already lasted more than 20 days. Resident Danie Swart said that, as it stands, the community has now gone a month without a consistent water supply.

“Some areas had water restored for a short while, but it was soon off again,” Swart explained.

In Bekkersdal, residents shared similar frustrations.

“It’s difficult for us; we face many challenges,” said Mongezi Molatlhegi. “Some of us live with elderly people who need to take medicine. We can’t bathe, go to school, or use toilets. The dirty toilets are a health risk, and people get sick from them. I hope the issue can be fixed soon.”

Another resident, Zotwa Mtjali, added: “It’s very bad. Some residents have water, and some don’t. How is that possible? If there’s no water, it should affect everyone. The water situation is getting worse.”
