Residents protest persistent water cuts at Rand West municipal offices
Anger over prolonged water shortages led Dan Tloome residents to stage a protest outside the municipality's offices, demanding urgent intervention.
Frustrated by ongoing water shortages, residents from the Dan Tloome community protested outside the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) offices, demanding urgent intervention and a sustainable solution to the persistent water crisis.
Protesters carried placards and chanted slogans as residents said prolonged outages have forced households to rely on costly alternative water sources, raising concerns about hygiene and living conditions in the area.

Community leader Mamello Makhanya expressed disappointment over what residents perceive as a lack of communication and accountability from authorities. She stressed that previous attempts to engage with the municipality had yielded little progress, prompting the need for direct action.
Protesters remained outside the municipal offices, hoping for feedback from officials regarding plans to resolve the ongoing crisis. Some residents indicated they would continue with demonstrations until tangible steps are taken to restore a consistent water supply.

RWCLM spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa stated on a previous occasion that the municipality is actively addressing the water issues and remains fully committed to resolving the problem.
“Supplying water remains our top priority,” said Montshiwa.
He did not, however, provide a timeline for when the water issues would be resolved.
The protest highlights growing tensions between communities and local government, as residents of Dan Tloome continue to demand basic service delivery and dignity through access to clean and reliable water.
