Water supply problems in Glenharvie

Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) gives reasons for the water supply crisis in parts of Westonaria.

Residents in Glenharvie, Westonaria has little to no access to water.

According to Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa, water levels have dropped to just 5 percent as a result of Rand Water’s feeding supply to the Glenharvie reservoir.

The exact areas affected include Glenharvie Extensions 1, 2, and 3 and the municipality has since deployed water tankers as a provisional measure until the supply from Rand Water has been restored.

“The RWCLM is still encountering problems with the feed of the Glenharvie reservoir by Rand Water. As a result of the current problem, the reservoir is currently at low capacity and this continues to affect the water supply of Glenharvie Extensions 1, 2, and 3. While we engage Rand Water every day, the problem is outside the control of the Municipality, but we will continue to detail water tankers to the area whilst the problem persists.

“To ensure the quality of the tanker water, we have instructed that all tankers be cleaned daily. We are also monitoring the quality of the water by sampling the water before dispatch of every truck,” said Montshiwa who further requests that residents cooperate with the municipality by using water sparingly.
