Hip, hip, hurray for the town’s community hero

Resident and community hero Georgina Mapule Mphatswe celebrated her 40th birthday by helping those in need instead.

Georgina Mapule Mphatswe hosted a charity event to celebrate her 40th birthday and helped 20 less fortunate people with a nutritious meal.

For her birthday, under the heading ‘the parable of the great banquet’, Mapule referenced Luke 14 verses 12–14 in the Bible. God said, “When you give a dinner do not invite your friends, brothers, sisters, relatives or rich neighbours. If you do, they will invite you back, and that would be your reward. But when you do a banquet, invite the poor, crippled, lame and the blind, and you will be blessed.”

She said she enjoys being around the needy and the disadvantaged people, hence, therefore decided to celebrate her birthday with men who always stand at intersections looking for jobs.

“I invited them to my house for my birthday and cooked for them,” she explained.

Mapule cooked an array of different foods and gave the needy parcels of staple food.

To her, this event meant a lot personally.

“Blessed is the hand that gives rather than the one that receives.”

She further expressed that the community should try to learn to give more.
