Generous donations helps to keep SPCAs doors open

The Westonaria SPCA is picking up the pieces and will be keeping its doors open after a generous donation.

The RandWest SPCA’s Westonaria branch received much-needed financial help to keep its doors open.

Following a case of theft, the SPCA members at the branch worried that they would have to close their doors due to the cost of damages. However, Hot 102.7 FM’s Hot Cares helped cover some expenses.

“The burglary left us without a roof, damaged electronics and wet blankets due to the rain. We thought this would be the end of the Westonaria branch,” Inspector Manager René van Straten shared.

“But then people with amazing hearts came to our rescue and we are happy to report all damages are covered! We will soon start the process of replacing the roofs. We are so grateful to everyone who reached out and made this amazing donation possible,” she expressed.

The SPCA received R8 000 to replace a stolen refrigerator, R20 000 to help replace the stolen roof and 100 blankets for the shelter animals.

“The donation for the roof helps a lot because we still have not received clarity from the insurance company whether they will cover the whole R50 000 to replace the roof.

“Our feet were knocked out from under us. This brings great relief and light at the end of what we thought was going to be a very dark tunnel. We thought we would never be able to recover from the damage and that it would mean the end of Westonaria, but people’s generosity has poured in. Thanks to our wonderful community with their wonderful hearts, Westonaria SPCA can still fight for you for our animal children,” she concluded.
