SPCA manager René van Straten said the Randfontein branch has a large water tank on site, sponsored by Harmony Gold Mining Company, with a pump system provided by The Local Choice Pharmacy Randgate.
“The planned water outage makes things a bit more challenging, but we are very blessed to have this setup,” she said.
We always ensure the tank is full so that we’re ready when the taps run dry.”
She added that while they hope the outage will last only three days, they are prepared to ask the community for help if needed. Fortunately, the SPCA’s Westonaria branch has a borehole and will not be affected, allowing them to fetch additional water if necessary.
“Water is essential – not just for drinking, but for cleaning cages and maintaining hygiene,” Van Straten said. “We hope we’re prepared, but no matter what, we’ll make sure our animals always have drinking water.”
