Modimo O Teng brings hope and hot meals to Montrose

Residents, young and old, of Montrose Informal Settlement received a warm meal from the Modimo O Teng Foundation to ward off the cold.

Montrose Informal Settlement recently benefited from a soup kitchen organised by the Modimo O Teng Foundation.

Kopano Hosene, founder of the foundation, explained that their team and volunteers gathered to prepare and serve warm bowls of soup to those in need.

“The event was not just about providing nourishment; it was a celebration of community, kindness, and the spirit of giving. As we handed out soup, we noticed the smiles spreading across faces, which was a reminder of the warmth that human connection can bring, even in the toughest of times,” Kopano said.

The outreach was organised with the assistance of the Academy of Little Angels Preschool, SN Creatives, Obakeng Letsapa, and other childhood friends of Kopano. The parents of the Academy of Little Angels Preschool played a vital role by not only donating but also serving and spreading joy.

“Their enthusiasm was infectious, reminding us all of the simple joys of community and the importance of caring for one another. We were also fortunate to receive donations from local businesses and community members, which significantly contributed to the success of the drive. It was heartening to witness how many people were willing to lend a hand, demonstrating that together we can make a difference.”

He added that they did not only feed hungry stomachs but also nourished hearts. Many of the attendees shared their stories and expressed their gratitude, reinforcing the foundation’s belief that we are all family.

“As we reflect on this event, we are filled with hope and determination to continue our efforts in supporting the community. We believe that initiatives like these can inspire others to join in the spirit of giving and create a lasting impact.”

Kopano also appealed to the community for support. They need clothing, sanitary pads, toiletries, and non-perishable food.

“Contributions, no matter how small, can make a profound difference in someone’s life, whether by helping a child go to school with dignity or ensuring a family has a warm meal.”
