Community mourns the loss of dedicated teacher

Randfontein bids farewell to Johan du Toit, a devoted teacher who touched many lives.

Beloved teacher and long-time Randfontein resident Johan du Toit passed away on September 8 after battling kidney failure.

Johan studied Education at Pretoria Teachers Training College and moved to Randfontein in 1991, where he lived for 25 years.

He joined Avanté Primary School (then Laerskool Kocksoord) in 1992 and later became deputy principal. In 2010, he completed his Honours degree in Education.

After suffering a stroke in 2015, Johan was placed on medical pension but remained active with beadwork, diamond art and reading.

A memorial service will be held tomorrow (September 12) at 11:00 at the NG Kerk in Randfontein West. He is survived by his son, mother, and five brothers with their families.

Read an in-depth article on Johan and his legacy in next week’s edition of the Randfontein Herald (September 19).
