Residents urged to use Mohlakeng Smart DLTC amid disruptions
The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport encourages residents to take advantage of facilities such as the Umphakathi Mall Smart DLTC as disruptions affect some municipal licensing centres.
Residents in Rand West City are encouraged to take advantage of extended operating hours and weekend services at the Umphakathi Mall Smart Driver’s Licence Testing Centre (DLTC) in Mohlakeng.
This comes as the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport (GDRT) calls on residents across the province to make use of provincial Smart Licensing Centres located along key corridors to ease pressure on municipal facilities.

The centres operate on weekdays from 08:00 to 17:00 and on Saturdays from 09:00 to 15:00, offering residents additional opportunities to access licensing services.
The Umphakathi Mall Smart DLTC is one of several provincial centres providing services to communities. Other Smart Licensing Centres in the province are located at Denlyn and Atteridgeville Mall in Tshwane, as well as Protea Glen, Maponya Mall, Gautrain Midrand Station and Sandton in Johannesburg.
In addition, the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) operates a DLTC at Waterfall Park – Halfway House in Johannesburg. This centre operates from 07:00 to 21:00, Monday to Sunday, but bookings are essential.
According to the department’s head of communications, Melitah Madiba, Smart Licensing Centres are modern service hubs equipped with the latest technology and staffed by experienced professionals.
These facilities help provide additional capacity to meet the growing demand for licensing services in the province.
“Services available at the centres include driving licence renewals, driving licence applications and testing, learner’s licence applications and testing, as well as motor vehicle registration and licensing,” said Madiba.

Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Kedibone Diale-Tlabela acknowledged the current service disruptions at some municipal licensing centres and confirmed that the department is engaging affected municipalities to resolve the challenges.
We deeply regret the current disruptions and have engaged affected municipalities to understand the underlying issues and work collaboratively towards a lasting solution,” said Diale-Tlabela.
The department apologised for the inconvenience and encouraged residents, particularly those in Rand West City and surrounding areas, to make use of the Umphakathi Mall Smart DLTC in Mohlakeng and other provincial centres offering extended service hours.
