Power outage in Ooster Plots caused by trip at substation
Power outage hits Ooster Plots, a day before planned maintenance on the network is due to take place.
Residents in the Ooster Plots area are currently without electricity due to a power outage.
The outage occurred earlier in the day when an electrician performing repairs on a transformer closed the fuses, causing the electricity to trip across the entire area at the substation.
Ward councillor Alderman Alwyn van Tonder confirmed the outage and said electricity will remain off while technical teams address the problem. He assured residents that the outage would not last too long, although no specific restoration time could be given. Municipal electricians have been dispatched to assess the situation and begin restoring power.
Residents are also reminded of an upcoming planned power interruption, tomorrow, March 17, from 08:00 to 18:00, to allow for important electrical line connection work.

Areas affected will be Wheatlands, Ooster Plots, Botha Plots, Elandsvlei, Loumarina, Connie Mulder, Wheatlands Primary School, and a portion of Wilbotsdal.
During this period, residents and businesses will have no electricity. Customers with essential electrical needs, such as medical equipment, are encouraged to make alternative arrangements in advance.
Any changes to the schedule due to weather or technical issues will be communicated in advance through official channels.
Van Tonder urged residents to report electricity-related faults through the proper municipal channels to help technicians identify and resolve issues quickly.
