Hartzstraat SGB spreads child abuse and cancer awareness

A Cancer and Children's Day awareness campaign was recently held to create awareness around cancer and child abuse.

School governing body (SGB) members of Hartzstraat Primary School recently hosted a Cancer and Children’s Day awareness campaign.

The SGB members involved were Rashida Abrahams, Cornell Phillips, Muriel George, Felicia Mlandu, Robert Mlandu and Elton Martins.

Multiple survivors spoke about their experience with cancer.

“This event was meant to break the silence around cancer and child abuse. We aimed at making people aware that there is life after early detection and treatment and to encourage our parents and community to nourish, care and love their children,” expressed Rashida.

Deborah Kock talks about how she battled cancer.

Rashida herself was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer and stated the disease is one of the most painful experiences.

Dianne Fortuin speaks about her cancer journey.

“Even though cancer is a silent killer, do not give up. Stay positive and take it one day at a time. Having to cut off my breast is not easy but I have learned to make peace with it,” she said.
