Helping learners choose wisely beyond school

As the Beyond the School Project concludes for the year after 43 matriculants were assisted, it aims to help even more soon.

This year the Beyond the School Project reached new heights as it continues to help Grade 12s with their field of study and career path choices.

The leader of the project, Charl Ludick, has announced that he expanded the initiative to provide more comprehensive support for learners at Hoërskool Jan Viljoen High School.

The focus of the project remains on creating shadowing opportunities for Grade 12 learners, however, Charl has incorporated additional services like university application assistance, CV building and career guidance.

“A key insight I’ve gained is that many Grade 12 learners struggle to articulate clear plans for their futures. When asked about their career aspirations, they often provide a broad range of answers with no concrete direction,” Charl explained.

By using the project, he has developed a structured process to help learners narrow down their field of study and identify a suitable career path.

“For instance, a learner may initially express an interest in law but lack clarity on the necessary steps to pursue it. Through guided exploration they either gain a clearer understanding of the path ahead or choose an alternative that better aligns with their strengths and interests,” he expressed.

In 2023, Charl expanded the project’s partnerships, providing invaluable insights into career paths as well as allowing learners to make more informed decisions. This year, Charl managed to help 43 Grade 12 learners using the project.

“Looking ahead to 2025, I aim to further develop the project by establishing new partnerships and continuing to support our learners in their journey toward successful futures,” he concluded.
