After an outstanding presentation, Westgold managed to take first place for poetry while also bagging third place for the BLM Educator Presentation.

The poem, Just a Drop, was written by educator Mariska Viljoen. She said it focused on environmental issues and water crises.

We had to identify a problem at our school, whereafter we chose water and sanitation. So we spoke about sanitation stations where learners can wash their hands. We also said that all taps should be closed and tightened to save water.

“I made a presentation about the school garden we recently started. With this information, our learners had to write a poem and perform it,” Mariska explained.

“The poem had a beautiful message that was shared by our learners. It was phenomenal to see the performance,” school spokesperson Mariska du Plessis concluded.
