The need for speed as learners read

Westgold's learners showcased reading skills and enthusiasm at the recent Afrikaans speed reading competition.

Westgold Primary’s Grade Four learners recently participated in an exciting Afrikaans speed reading competition held in each class.

According to school spokesperson Mariska du Plessis, learners challenged one another to read quickly and accurately, creating an energetic and inspiring atmosphere in the classrooms.

She added that each class had three winners who competed against other classes in the second round. The final top three learners were announced.

Rorisang Aau, Oabile Papo and Akhiwe Ngwenya.

Hapiness Ramajoe came in first place with a total of 160 words per minute. Oabile Papo took the second place with a close total of 154 words. Third place was taken by Lethabo Peta, who managed to read 150 words per minute.

“This is a fantastic achievement they can be proud of. We want to congratulate every participant, especially the finalists, who showcased their skills and dedication.
