Uncertainty finally over
Please come back home and join COPE for a real South Africa with hope and intergrity from above.
• Solly May from COPE writes:
On the morning of 18 October 2013, Honourable Acting Judge Justice Watt-Pringle handed down the final judgement in the matter of Cope and one v/s Shilowa and others.
The rulling upholds COPE’s firmly held position of the supremacy of constitutional democracy in the party by rejecting that the constitution of COPE was amended during the St Georges Policy conference in May 2010, thus reducing the constitutional requirements of a quorum from two thirds to 50 per cent plus 1 in order to elect leadership.
Justice Watt-Pringle’s ruling confirms that the leadership of COPE elected by acclamation in 2008 during the inaugural congress in Bloemfontein and held Honourable Mosiua Lekota is the legitimate leader of the party.
As the leader and councilor in the West Rand, I want to apologize to our voters and the entire South Africa.
I am humbled by those who never gave up on COPE and voted again in the 2010 local elections.
My humble apology for letting you down but through the grace of God and the prayers of the nation, COPE has overcome the destructive elements that were within the party and can now move forward.
I am hoping for a favourable response from you the voters from all the corners of South Africa, especially the West Rand.
Please come back home and join COPE for a real South Africa with hope and intergrity from above.
