Register for the elections

Message by the speaker of the Randfontein Local Municipality on the upcoming registrations for local government elections 2016.

Councillor Brenda Mahuma, Speaker of Randfontein Local Municipality, Councillor Brenda Mahuma would like to plead with the people of Randfontein to register for the forthcoming municipal elections. Registration is open at your local IEC Office.

The IEC has announced its first open registration weekend will be 5 and 6 March. All voting districts will be open from 7.30am to 7pm.

I also want to remind members of our community that the publication of the new ward delimitation has been finalised, subsequent to the announcement of the new merged municipality comprising Randfontein and Westonaria Local Municipalities.

The forthcoming local elections will be conducted on the basis of the new merged municipality, therefore it is important for members of the community to contact the municipality to make sure exactly where the new boundaries of their respective wards are, or visits the MDB website to check the new standings of the wards of the new municipality.

The name of the new municipality will be announced in due course in terms of the relevant legislation and frameworks.

Members of the community are encouraged to use the new technology and applications to verify their voter registration status.

They also can use the sms line to check their status by smsing their ID numbers to 32810 (R1 per sms).

Voters also can visit www.elections.org.za to check and verify their registration status and voting station.

As custodian of our public participation and participatory democracy, members of our community who may need further assistance or information on the local government elections, are encouraged to contact the Office of the Speaker on 011 411 0303 or via email sithe.tsembeyi@randfontein.gov.za.

For us to advance people’s power, your tomorrow is in your hands. Register to vote.
