RCC second team finish 2014 strong

Local boys victorious against Roshnee by more than 50 runs in what was the last game of the year.

Randfontein Cricket Club’s second team finished the first half of their season on a high with a 54 run victory against Roshnee on Sunday.

Our local boys won the toss and elected to bat first but playing on a difficult pitch, the two opening batsman had a hard time at the office.

Randfontein lost one wicket after the other but it was not long before when Kevin Pontus and Dillon Harmse stabilized the innings.

Randfontein was eventually bowled out for 177. Roshnee went in to bat where Randfontein got the wickets of the openers in just the first two overs.

The next two batsmen then put up a fight to take the score to 71 for two at the drinks break. After this, the Randfontein boys clawed their way back to bowl the opposition out for just 123 runs.

Stand-out players for Randfontein included batsman Kevin Pontus who scored 52 runs and Nathan du Toit who took five wickets.

“We want to thank everyone for their support during the first half of the season, looking forward to next year when we start with the second half of the season,” Freddie Schade, second team coach said.
