Randfontein SA5 side thrash visitors

Randfontein wins by eight wickets in an impressive performance at home.

Randfontein Cricket Club’s Saturday 5 team dished out a thrashing to Azad Swaraj at home this past weekend.

The visitors Azad Swaraj won the toss and opted to bat first but to their dismay, Randfontein’s opening bowlers struck early. Azad Swaraj then lost one wicket after the other. Randfontein’s fielding was also top notch as fielders in actual fact put their bodies on the line, jumping and diving at every opportunity the opposition threw at them.

Azad Swaraj managed to set a target of 152 all out.

During Randfontein’s batting innings, sixes and fours were the order of the day. One ball was hit so hard and so far by Gradwill Bok that a new ball was requested as the previous one was nowhere to be found.

This was a special match indeed as four Randfontein Cricket Club legends – Jaundré Venter, Grant Bell, Barry Williams and Gareth Farinha – walked onto the pitch after a long absence. They were paired up with some of the cricket club’s young bloods.

The combination ultimately proved to be dynamite as a big partnership had Azad Swaraj frustrated and hopeless.

With the scoreboard on 156 for two in the 15th over it was all over, meaning the locals secured victory by eight wickets.
