Westgold first rugby team makes history!

They won the Golden Lions finals in their division.

Westgold Primary’s first rugby team made history for the school as they are the first first team to have won the Golden Lions finals in their division.

School spokesperson Melanie Swart said to prepare for the league they played a few friendly matches against some of the schools in their surrounding area, and they also had a practice camp for their U/9, U/10 and U/11 teams.

“We were fortunate enough to take the first team on a tour to Klerksdorp to participate in the KOSH tournament during the March school holidays.”

She added that their rugby teams did exceptionally well during this year’s West Rand First Division league.

We are very proud to announce that our first and second team won their league as they’ve won all their matches; and all our teams (U/9, U/10, U/11 and first team) qualified to participate in the Lions First Division league playoffs that took place at Hoërskool Florida from Tuesday May 31 until Tuesday June 14.”

Melanie added that their U/9 team made it through to the quarter-finals, the U/10 team made it through to the semi-finals, and their U/11 and first team played in the finals.

“We are looking forward to next year’s rugby league to build on our success and to go from strength to strength.”
