Sims is currently playing as a loose forward for the Randfontein Rugby Club’s second team, although his natural position is hooker. He also substitutes for the first team. The rugby club has had Sims playing for them since 2022.

Sims’ rugby journey began at a very young age. With his father serving as a coach for the Kloof Rugby Club, he was regularly exposed to the sport. He noted that he started taking rugby seriously at the age of five when he joined the Tau Lions’ U5 team.

After that, Sims progressed to play in the Red Squad U12 side. By the time he was 15, he managed to join his high school’s first rugby team and also participated in the Saint John’s Festival.

He has since earned the titles of Best Junior Rugby Player of the Year and Junior U21 Forward Player of the Year. He also represented Randfontein while playing in the Gold Cup.

I would like to play in professional leagues one day and maybe join a professional rugby team like the Sharks.

“I enjoy creating loyal friendships, making a name for myself, and painting an image of determination,” Sims shared.

Furthermore, Sims encouraged individuals who dream of becoming upcoming rugby players.

“Never give up on your future goals, even if you come from a small town and a small school. One of my favourite quotes to think about is, ‘You will be unstoppable today, tomorrow and every other day,’” he concluded.
