Gender support coordinator at RWCLM Nomabhele Bonga, explained the learners competed in netball, soccer and volleyball. The theme of the tournament was bullying, gangsterism, drug use and education, which she stated highlights the municipality’s effort to address these issues.

Those involved included the Department of Sports, which sponsored the tournament and also provided soccer and netball kits and medals. The Department of Education provided the approval for the municipality to invite the primary schools to participate. The municipality provided certificates, trophies, medals, food for the participants, as well as transport.
“The primary aim of the tournament was to reduce bullying, gangsterism, drug use, gender-based violence and femicide among primary school learners.
By promoting sports and education, the event sought to instil positive values and behaviours in young people,” Nomabhele stated.
Numerous stakeholders within the community took part, including Madam Speaker, Councillor Selina Moumakwe, Khethekile NPC and pastor Lolo Lechuti, among others.
