Jannas dominate rivals Riebeeckrand in season opener

Jannas made a strong statement in their season opener, securing a 3–0 win over Riebeeckrand on home ground last Thursday.

A strong start to the season was on display last Thursday as Hoërskool Jan Viljoen High School hosted long-time rivals Hoërskool Riebeeckrand High School on their home ground. The spirited football clash delivered an exciting opening encounter for both players and supporters.

From the opening whistle, Jannas asserted their dominance, controlling possession and dictating the tempo of the match. Their attacking intent paid off early, with a well-worked goal giving the hosts a deserved lead. Riebeeckrand fought hard to respond, showing determination and resilience, but struggled to break through a disciplined Jannas defence.

Despite the scoreline, Riebeeckrand showed moments of promise and teamwork, never giving up in their pursuit of a comeback. The match highlighted the competitive spirit and growing football culture between the two schools, with both teams displaying talent and sportsmanship.

Jannas goalkeeper Teko Kgapola expressed his satisfaction after keeping a clean sheet.

“It’s a great start to the season – first game, first clean sheet. Hopefully I can maintain this for the rest of the season,” he said. He added that he is looking forward to upcoming matches against Randfontein High School and Randfontein Secondary School, which he expects to be their toughest tests.
