Teine run riot to reach Grand Challenge final

Randfontein Teine pulled away after half-time to secure a 47–28 semi-final victory over North-West University Pukke and book their place in the Grand Challenge final.

Randfontein Rugby Club’s first team booked their place in the Golden Lions Grand Challenge final with a convincing 47–28 victory over North-West University’s Pukke at Greenhills Stadium on August 15.

The first half of the game was closely contested, with Teine holding a narrow 17–14 lead. The home side came out firing after the break, taking control of the match and pulling away from Pukke.

Rudi Marx marked his 400th appearance with a memorable performance, scoring a second-half try and being named Man of the Match.

Renaldo Visser, Sinethemba “Snez” Mapaqa and Michael Tolmay, who scored twice, also crossed the try line for Teine. Captain Keagan Fortune, who scored a first-half try, added three successful penalties and four conversions.

Earlier, Pukke defeated Randfontein 36–26 after extra time in the third-team semi-final, while Pukke beat the University of Johannesburg 40–12 in the second-team clash.

Teine will now have a weekend off before returning to Greenhills Stadium on August 29 for the Grand Challenge final against Northam Rhinos.
