Randfontein first team crushes UJ in thriller

Randfontein Rugby Club’s first team stole the spotlight with a commanding victory over UJ, providing a major highlight on an otherwise challenging day for the club’s other sides.

Randfontein Rugby Club’s first team delivered a superb performance in their Golden Lions Rugby Union (GLRU) Grand Challenge clash against the University of Johannesburg (UJ), securing a dominant 66–29 victory to cap off a challenging but exciting day for the club.

The first team impressed with attacking flair, clinical finishing and strong teamwork, running in multiple tries against a formidable UJ side known for competing in top university rugby competitions, including the Varsity Cup.

While the senior side celebrated an emphatic win, the junior and reserve teams endured tougher outings during the day.

The U19 side suffered a heavy 64–0 defeat against a dominant UJ outfit, while the third team narrowly lost 29–22 after a competitive and hard-fought encounter.

The second team also showed determination and attacking intent in an entertaining high-scoring clash, but eventually went down 43–32.

Despite the mixed results across the divisions, Randfontein Rugby Club can take pride in the first team’s outstanding display, which ended the day on a high note and highlighted the club’s senior strength.

Man of the Match honours went to:

• U19: Reghard Ernst
• Third team: Divan Roux
• Second team: Alejandro Dos Ramos
• First team: Ruan Du Toit
