Try-fest! Teine hammer Diggers 139–7

A six-try haul from Renaldo Visser and a 250-game hat-trick from Johan Swart highlighted a day Diggers would rather forget.

Randfontein Rugby Club produced a dominant display across all age groups on Saturday, May 30 recording a clean sweep over Diggers Rugby Club.

The standout result came from the first team, who delivered a remarkable 139–7 victory to cap off a memorable day for the home side.

The U19 side laid the foundation with a 24–15 win before the U21s edged Diggers 21–17 in a closely contested match.

The third team then added to the momentum with a convincing 26–10 victory, while the second team dismantled their opponents 80–7 in a near-flawless performance.

The first team, however, stole the show with an attacking exhibition that saw them run in tries at will. Combining pace, precision and clinical finishing, Randfontein overwhelmed Diggers to record an astonishing 139–7 triumph.

Ruan du Toit got the scoring underway with one of the fastest tries seen this season, setting the tone for what followed. Veteran Johan Swart celebrated his 250th appearance for the club in style, crossing the whitewash three times within the opening 10 minutes.

The backline proved unstoppable, with Dylan Viviers and Tiaan Naudé both claiming hat-tricks, while winger Renaldo Visser crossed for an incredible six tries. Flyhalf Keagan Fortune controlled the game superbly and contributed 34 points, including two tries, as Randfontein’s forwards laid the perfect platform.

The victory keeps Randfontein at the top of the league standings. Although level on points with Northam Wolves Rugby, they retain first place thanks to a superior points difference. Northam Rhinos Rugby sit third, with Alberton Rugby Club in fourth position as the title race begins to heat up.

Randfontein’s latest statement victory underlines their credentials as serious championship contenders and a team determined to remain at the summit.
