Burglar busted in Centurion CBD

“We would like to thank the community and police officers who were involved in the apprehension of this suspect.”

A man was arrested for allegedly breaking into a house at a complex in the Centurion CBD area on Monday afternoon.

Lyttelton police received a complaint of the break-in in the late afternoon, according to police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller.

“It was alleged that the suspect was busy trying to steal something from the house when he was interrupted by the homeowner,” said Miller.

The suspect allegedly tried to stab the homeowner whilst escaping but was luckily unsuccessful.

Miller said that an immediate search was launched by police and the community.

“Shortly thereafter the suspect was found and arrested by our two new sector managers, Sergeant Olerman and Constable Van der Westhuizen.”

The suspect was found in possession of housebreaking tools with a knife that was allegedly used in the fight with the homeowner.

All property was recovered and only the suspect was injured while jumping over a wall in an attempt to escape.

“We would like to thank the community and police officers who were involved in the apprehension of this suspect.”

Miller said that the suspect would appear in the Pretoria magistrate’s court on a charge of housebreaking, possession of housebreaking tools and possession of a dangerous weapon.

“We would like to encourage our community members to become actively involved with the local CPF,” said Miller.

“They are a direct link between the community and the police. Standing together we are stronger and a lot less vulnerable, in the fight against crime.”
