Two suspected robbers arrested in Laudium, weapons recovered

Two suspected robbers were arrested following a high-speed car chase in Laudium on Sunday.

The arrest came after police were given a lookout order on a suspected stolen vehicle that was driving around in Laudium.

“Police responded swiftly to the information provided and a Toyota Fortuner with two occupants inside was spotted at Himalaya Street in Laudium,” said police spokesperson, Sergeant Simon Chokoe.

When the police approached the vehicle, it sped off.

“A chase ensued and eventually the suspects were cornered in Itereleng informal settlement. Police searched the vehicle and inside they found a hunting rifle, five cellphones and a knife. All items were seized together with the vehicle,” Chokoe said.

The men, aged between 27 and 33, were immediately arrested for possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle and possession of unlicensed firearm.

“Police will continue with more visibility and stop and searches around Laudium to ensure that the communities are and feel safe.”
