NEWSFLASH: Drug bust in notorious Eersterust ‘drug street’

A 21-year-old was found with methcathinone valued at an estimated R35 000.

A 21-year-old man was arrested for drug dealing in Eersterust following an intelligence-led operation on Friday morning.

The man was found with 188 packets of what is suspected to be methcathinone, also known as CAT, at Titus Avenue, a street notorious for drug dealing.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Sam Shibambo said police, along with the Bronkhorstspruit K9 unit, were busy with their operation when they noticed a suspicious young man standing opposite one of the houses known for its drug trade.

“They approached the young man and after getting consent to search him … they found 118 packets of drugs suspected to be CAT with an estimated street value of R35 000 concealed in the suspect’s clothing.”

Shibambo said police also found a considerable amount of money in his possession.

The station commander of Eersterust police station, Lieutenant Colonel Maesela John Kgoetego, thanked the K9 members for the excellent job done and said that “118 lives that was supposed to be ruined by the same drugs have been spared”.

The man will appear in court next week on charges of possession of and dealing in drugs.
