Forum to unlock Gauteng economy
Gauteng province to unlock its economic potential

The Gauteng province will soon be able to thrash out details regarding what needs to be done to create more jobs, grow an inclusive economy, increase investment and address poverty and inequality.
Through the Gauteng business consultative forum (GBCF), which was formed on Thursday, David Makhura, Premier of Gauteng, said stakeholders would work together to unlock the economic potential of the Gauteng city region. According to the South African Government News Agency, Premier Makhura indicated the forum must help the province to reach its goal of a radically transformed economy and an economy that benefits all the people.
“In this forum we will be able to thrash out the detail of what we need to create more jobs, grow an inclusive economy, increase investment and address poverty and inequality,” Makhura said.
The forum will have to confront problems and make difficult choices. It is expected the forum will tackle these problems head-on, without fear or favour, sparing no effort, driven only by the desire to do what is best for the province in the long-term.
However the premier stressed that GBCF was not intended to duplicate existing structures, especially at national government level. It will complement current work by focusing energy and efforts on resolving problems that are specific and unique to the Gauteng economy.
“Our vision is to build a Gauteng that is seamlessly integrated, socially cohesive, economically inclusive city region. A leading economy on the African continent that is underpinned by smart, innovation-driven, knowledge-based, sustainable industries of the future. An accountable, responsive, transparent and clean government and an active citizenry,” he said.
In order to advance towards this vision, the province will implement a programme of radical transformation, modernisation and re-industrialisation which is the province’s roadmap to realise the vision outlined in the national development plan.
