A minor who was caught with a small bag of dagga in The Reeds showed cooperation by leading the police to the drug dealer yesterday morning.
According to Cecil Swart, chief executive of a security company, three of his reaction officers saw a minor acting suspiciously at a shopping centre on the corner of Panorama Road and Yelanda Street. The minor sat down on a bench at a bus stop and reached down to pick up the drugs. According to Swart, this is the way drug dealers and drug users operate to avoid being seen handing over the drugs.
Three members of the security company confronted the minor and, according to Swart, the boy showed cooperation by leading them to the drug dealer.
The police arrived on the scene and the alleged 40-year-old drug dealer was arrested a few blocks from where the minor had been caught.
According to Captain Agnus Huma, spokesperson of the Wierda Park police station, the police found dagga in a plastic bag that he hid on his body.
The suspect is being detained at the Wierdabrug police station and will appear in the Pretoria magistrate’s court soon, Huma confirmed.
The police are working closely with members of the community policing forum as well as security companies to combat the issue of drug dealing in Centurion.
The drug dealer operated in the vicinity of schools and it is believed that he is a regular supplier and seller of drugs to pupils.
