Teenager shot dead by robbers

Three suspects who were allegedly involved in a house robbery and shoot-out in the north of Pretoria were on Monday still at large. The scuffle led to the death of a 13-year-old boy.

The three suspects who allegedly broke into a home in the north of Pretoria and shot and killed a teenager were on Monday still at large.

A desperate mother recently rushed with her bloody 13-year-old son to the nearest police station after three suspects broke into their home in Hestea Park and shot him. Portia Ngonyama rushed with her son, Thembinkosi on Saturday morning to the Pretoria north police station to save her son, but to no avail. He was declared dead at the police station.

According to the Akasia police spokesperson, Riana van Aarde, three men broke into the family’s home in Mastiff Street. She said that the suspects were involved with a scuffle with Portia’s two sons, Thembinkosi and Thami, when shots were fired, one of which hit Thembinkosi. The suspects escaped with plenty of the family’s belongings.

Desperate for help, Portia loaded her son into the vehicle and drove to the nearest police station.

Van Aarde said that nobody else was injured during the break-in. She added that the police still have not made any arrests and that the case is still being investigated. Van Aarde urged all in the area to be vigilant and not to forget basic home safety rules.

“People should always be safe and should not forget basic safety rules like locking your doors, or proofing your windows. We need to make it as hard as possible for the criminals to enter our homes.”
