Elardus Road upgraded

The Department of Roads and Transport recently spent over R51m to upgrade Elardus Road.

Motorists in the Centurion area can now finally breathe a sigh of relief. Smoother and safer traffic flow is on the cards after Roads and Transport MEC, Dr Ismali Vadi, officially opened the rehabilitated P122/1 Elardus Road in Irene, Centurion this week.

It has been indicated that the road previously had potholes that made driving difficult for road users, but now it has now been upgraded.

The rehabilitated road is an alternative route to the R21 Albertina Sisulu highway, which links commuters from Pretoria East and Bapsfontein to Kempton Park right into the Johannesburg city centre.

The project provided employment, skills development training and economic empowerment opportunities to local contractors and communities with a total of 47 jobs created.

Addressing the attendees, MEC Vadi said the department saw a need to upgrade the road because it was becoming useless for road users.

He added that the department spent over R51m on rehabilitating the road and that they would continue to rehabilitate other roads in need of urgent attention.
