Robbers caught red-handed

Thanks to the joint effort of the public, CPF, Monitor Net and the police, three robbers were arrested just minutes after committing the crime.

Three suspects who were allegedly involved in a robbery were arrested in Rooihuiskraal on Wednesday afternoon.

The police, Community Policing Forum (CPF) Sector 2 and a security company were informed by the public of a robbery that took place in Diana Circle.

A man on the street witnessed three suspects climbing over a fence.

When the police arrived, the robbers had already been in the house and had allegedly stolen items including a laptop and jewellery.

The owner of the house, Ferdi Robbertze, said that the suspects had broken his door frame – possibly with a crowbar.

A crowbar was found in the suspects’ vehicle along with a screwdriver and the stolen items.

A reaction team from Monitor Net was in the vicinity and responded immediately. They saw the suspects driving off in a white Opel Corsa bakkie.

Sam Mphamo from Monitor Net said that they were able to stop the suspects only a few blocks away.

According to Pierre Vivier, chairperson of the CPF Sector 2, Wierdaburg, the police and CPF had been on the lookout for this particular vehicle since Monday.

“This was a very successful arrest that was made by the joint effort of the police, CPF and Monitor Net,” Vivier said.

The police also found a police veteran cap, which could possible have been used to disguise one of the suspects as a police officer.

Policespokeswoman Captain Julia Claassen said the three arrested men, aged between 23 and 26, were expected to appear in court soon. They face charges of house robbery.

“Further investigation revealed that one of the suspects had a warrant of arrest for his involvement in a housebreaking case in February 2013 also in Centurion, ” Claassen said.
