Fish and chips robber sentenced to 25 years
Fish and Grill robber sentenced to 25 years imprisonment. The 37 year-old Johannes Moyo was also previously convicted of a bank robbery in Johannesburg.
A thorough and meticulous investigation conducted by a Moot police detective has ensured that a robber of a fish and grill shop will spend a very long time behind bars.
Johannes Moyo (37) from Yeoville was recently sentenced to 25 years imprisonment by the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court. The prosecutor commended Warrant Officer Louis Hoffman from the Moot Detective Service on a case that was thoroughly investigated and the evidence well structured.
On 5 November 2012, two armed men robbed the Brewers Fish and Grill shop in the Moot area. The robbers fled on foot with money and a cellphone.
According to Captain Colette Weilbach, police spokesperson, the owner of the shop chased after them in his vehicle. Moyo fired a shot at the owner whilst running away.
“In the process he ran in front of another vehicle and was run over. The police was quickly on the scene and the suspect was arrested. Some of the stolen money and the cellphone were then recovered,” she said.
The firearm that was used in the robbery was also confiscated. With further investigation it was established that the firearm was used in another business robbery that occurred in October 2012 in Douglasdale.
Weilbach said that Moyo was also previously convicted for a bank robbery that was committed in Johannesburg.
“This sentence serves as a warning to repeat offenders that they may run but they can’t hide forever as their luck will run out and justice will prevail at the end,” she said.
