Three armed robbers still at large
The three suspects who shot and killed a young boy during a robbery in the north of Pretoria were on Tuesday still at large. Police are urging any persons with information to come forward.
Three robbers who shot and killed a teenager when they broke into a house in the north of Pretoria are still at large and being hunted by the police after almost two weeks since the fatal shooting.
On 26 October, a desperate mother rushed her bloody 13-year-old son to the nearest police station after three suspects broke into their home in Hestea Park and shot him. According to the Akasia police spokesperson, Riana van Aarde, no further progress has been made in the case and police are still investigating.
She appealed to the community to come forward with any useful information regarding the case.
After her son was shot, Portia Ngonyama rushed young Thembinkosi to the Pretoria north police station to save him, but to no avail. He was declared dead at the police station.
Van Aarde explained that three men broke into the family’s home in Mastiff Street. She said that the suspects were involved in a scuffle with Portia’s two sons, Thembinkosi and Thami, when shots were fired, one of which hit Thembinkosi.
The suspects escaped with several of the family’s belongings.
Desperate for help, Portia loaded her son into the vehicle and drove to the nearest police station.
She confirmed that nobody else was injured during the break-in.
Van Aarde urged all in the area to be vigilant and not to forget basic home safety rules.
“People should always be safe and should not forget basic safety rules like locking the doors, or burglar-proofing the windows. We need to make it as hard as possible for the criminals to enter our homes.”
