Police were on Wednesday still searching for a group of ATM bombers.
Residents and Atteridgeville patrolling police were alerted by a loud bang when an ATM was bombed in Saulsville last Thursday.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Thomas Mufumadi, the bombing took place at about 03:45 at a petrol garage.
“Patrolling police heard a loud bang close to the corner of the petrol station. When they arrived, the suspects saw the flashing lights and started shooting at the police.”
Mufumadi said that the suspects fled the scene in a white Volkswagen Golf GTI. The police gave chase until Ndukula Street, where the suspects had driven into a rock in front of a house in the street.
“The suspects got out of the vehicle and fled. We are not sure how many. They jumped over the wall of the house and we could not catch them. Next to the wall of the house a rifle and two full magazines with live rounds were seized by the police,” Mufumadi explained.
Mufumadi stated that no one was injured and no arrests have been made thus far. He urges community members to come forward with any information they may have regarding the ATM bombing.
