The rate of cable theft is escalating day by day in Centurion, police said on Sunday.
This comes after a suspect was arrested for being in possession of stolen copper cables with a street value of R3 000.
According to Captain Agnus Huma of the Wierdabrug police station, the suspect was caught in the act by members of the police while they were patrolling on foot at the old Johannesburg Road next to Rooihuiskraal Road.
It has been indicated that the police saw wires and cables, and that when they came closer to inspect the situation, they saw a man cutting cables. Huma further said that the suspect, aged 24, was arrested and was being detained at the Wierdabrug police station. Investigations are underway.
