More than 30 arrested for various crimes
More than 30 people were arrested in Ga-Rankuwa for various criminal offences over the weekend in yet another successful operation When Duty Calls mission.
The Ga-Rankuwa police successfully embarked on their weekend operation to combat crime in the area – including the rounding up of illegal immigrants who would be deported.
According to the police, a host of suspects were arrested for being involved in various criminal activities that included rape, possession of drugs, theft and house break-in.
The police intensified operation When Duty Calls, which is scheduled to run until the end of the festive season.
Ga-Rankuwa police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Matthews Nkoadi, told Rekord that a total of 33 arrests were made.
He said many suspects were arrested for several road offences such as obstruction of traffic and failure to stop at stop signs.
“Other suspects were charged with shoplifting offences, and common assault and pointing a firearm were also charged. We have others charged with dealing in liquor, contravention of a protection order and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm,” he said.
All arrested suspects will appear in the Ga-Rankuwa magistrate’s court soon.
Nkoadi added that all illegal immigrants would be deported.
