Armed robbery at Menlyn Shopping Centre
Police said a group of armed men robbed a jewellery store inside the Menlyn Shopping Centre on Thursday.

The Arthur Kaplan Jewellers store in Menlyn Shopping Centre was robbed on Thursday morning, police said.
“Four to five men entered the store through the delivery passage at around 06:53 on Thursday morning. They broke a burglar bar to get into the store,” said police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Marinda Swanepoel.
The armed robbers, who all wore balaclavas, found two staff members in the store busy with stock-taking. “The robbers tied up the staff members with cable ties and stole more watches than jewellery. The value of the stolen items is still to be confirmed. Fortunately, the two staff members were left unharmed,” Swanepoel said.
Due to the robbery taking place before trading hours, no shoppers were in danger or inconvenienced. Police arrived at the scene immediately after the panic button was activated by the shop manager.
“Menlyn Park Shopping Centre appreciates the prompt response of the SAPS in support of its measures to ensure the safety and security of its retailers and shoppers,” said Menlyn Shopping Centre spokesperson, Andrea de Wit.
