ANC’s alleged fraudsters granted bail
A senior ANC member has been granted bail with his co-accused by the Commercial Crime Court for alleged fraud this morning.
Senior ANC member Pule Mabe and his co-accused, Paseka Letsatsi and Kabedi Ramosa, have each been granted a R10 000 bail by the Commercial Crime Court in Pretoria’s city centre this morning after being arrested for fraud.
Mabe, a member of the ANC’s National Executive Council, and his two co-accused handed themselves over to the Sunnyside police this morning.
The three appeared in court on charges ranging from theft and fraud to money laundering.
Letsatsi is the head of communications of the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) while Ramosa is Mabe’s business partner.
It is alleged that Letsatsi illegally solicited money from Sassa, which were then given to company owned by Mabe and Ramosa.
Letsatsi’s lawyer, Zola Majavu, confirmed that his client and the co-accused were granted bail.
He also indicated that Letsatsi had been in the ANC Youth League for five years.
“Letsatsi faces charges of fraud, alternatively theft, but that has to do with his current employer, Sassa” Majavu said.
The suspects handed themselves over to the Sunnyside police early on Friday morning.
Mabe is the former ANCYL treasurer general and now a member of the party’s decision-making body, the National Executive Council. The case has been scheduled for 13 February 2014.
