Hijacking video goes viral
A video depicting four suspects hijacking a Toyota SUV in Johannesburg on Saturday went viral over the weekend with thousands of views online.

A second hijacking in the past two weeks took place on the corner of Commissioner and Crown streets in the Johannesburg CBD.
With approximately 75 000 views, a video depicting four armed suspects hijacking a silver Toyota RAV 4 on Saturday went viral over the weekend.
The video shows the Toyota stopping at a robot, and a dark vehicle forcing its way in front of the Toyota. Trying to reverse, the Toyota is stopped by another vehicle from behind. Two suspects get out of the first
vehicle while another jumps out of the second vehicle, all running towards the Toyota. One of the hijackers opens the passenger door, forcefully pulling out the passenger, while the other hijacker guards the vehicle with what looks like a rifle. The suspect takes a number of items from the Toyota to load into the car parked behind.
The hijackers then violently pull out the remaining passengers in the Toyota as well as the driver. One of the backseat passengers is pulled out and dragged to the floor, after which the hijacker pulls off her shoes before they all jump into the Toyota and drive off.
“The incident took place on Saturday at about 16:00 on the corner of Commissioner and Crown streets. No
arrests have been made as yet,” said police spokesperson, Sergeant Obakeng Mabaso.
She stated that motorists should not retaliate when being hijacked. “We advise motorists to do as they are instructed by the hijackers. It is best not to argue and fight. Motorists should immediately contact the
emergency line on 112 or 10111 to report their vehicle registration number and additional information and descriptions,” said Mabaso.
Vehicle details and registration numbers are circulated to all police officers on duty. “Police officers are given all the details so they can be on the lookout for the hijacked car as well as the hijackers,” Mabaso said.
According to Crime Line, a similar incident took place at the same intersection on 4 November.
